Everyone Rides Grade 4 & 5

The Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program provides British Columbia elementary students with skills, confidence and the opportunity to learn to ride their bikes to and from school. Cycling education for elementary students helps:

  • provide a safe way for students to get daily physical exercise and move within their community, especially during this time of COVID-19
  • to raise a generation of sustainable transportation users and safe road users
  • reach goals related to Vision Zero, climate action, active transportation and healthy communities

Universal & accessible cycling education in schools is an effective way to raise a generation of sustainable transportation users and safe road users. Every child should finish elementary school having received cycling education (much like they do in many European jurisdictions) – this creates a systemic culture of cycling that permeates student, parent and teacher lifestyles and transportation choices. The Bike Victoria Society is excited to work with HUB Cycling and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to make universal cycling education a reality for BC youth.

Due to school closures and changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, HUB developed the Learn2Ride Online course, offered free of charge to students throughout BC. Parents and teachers can find out more about how to gain access to this free course for youth ages 9-12 here.

Everyone Rides Grade 4-5 program is also rolling out in select communities around B.C. in 2021 to engage students at their schools and offer safety tips. Click here to read our 2020 report.

Want to teach with us?

We are hiring several instructors to join our ERG45 Bike Skills Instructor team this year. Instructors work on a seasonal basis and teach our Everyone Rides Grades 4 & 5 in-school cycling courses. The work can be fairly physical and requires enthusiasm and high levels of energy. Candidates must have flexible daytime availability on weekdays. The spring season lasts from April-June, with the opportunity to teach again in the fall (Sept-mid-Nov). Successful applicants must become Bike Right certified by attending and passing the Advance Your Ride cycling skills course from April 6-9. Fees for this course are paid by Bike Victoria. Additional, compensated on-site training will be provided before the first course begins.
